Specialized Occupational Therapy Intensives

What Is an Occupational Therapy Intensive?
An occupational therapy intensive is a short-term, high-frequency therapy model designed to accelerate progress by providing consistent, focused intervention over a condensed period of time. Rather than spreading therapy out once per week, intensives allow children to build
momentum, strengthen emerging skills, and reinforce new movement patterns through
repetition and consistency.
At PlayStrong Intensives, therapy is delivered one-on-one and fully individualized, allowing each program to be tailored to a child’s unique physical, neurological, and functional needs.
What a PlayStrong Intensive Looks Like
Full Intensive Program
Our full intensive program consists of:
-
3 hours per day
-
4 days per week
-
4 consecutive weeks
-
100% one-on-one therapy

This model allows for deep, focused work on foundational skills while supporting endurance, regulation, and carryover. Sessions are structured but motivating, combining strength-based movement, nervous system regulation, and functional skill development through purposeful activities.
Modified Intensive Options
We also offer modified intensive programs for families who need a different structure. These may include:
-
Fewer hours per day
-
Fewer days per week
-
Shorter program duration
Modified intensives are customized based on the child’s needs, family schedule, and financial considerations. All programs maintain the same individualized, one-on-one approach.
Reflex Integration Intensive Program
In addition to our full and modified occupational therapy intensives, PlayStrong Intensives offers a Reflex Integration Intensive designed for children who benefit from focused neurological foundation work.
This program consists of:
-
1 hour per session
-
3 days per week
-
4–8 weeks in duration
-
100% one-on-one therapy
The Reflex Integration Intensive targets retained primitive reflexes that may impact motor control, coordination, emotional regulation, attention, and functional independence. Sessions
incorporate structured movement patterns, sensory-motor activities, and intentional repetition to support nervous system organization and improved functional performance.
Family education and home carryover strategies are integrated throughout the program to reinforce progress between sessions and beyond the intensive.
Areas of Focus During Intensives
Intensive programs are designed to support foundational skills that impact function across daily life, including:
-
Core strength and postural control
-
Motor planning and coordination
-
Sensory processing and regulation
-
Primitive reflex integration
-
Functional mobility and endurance
-
Self-care foundations and independence
Each intensive is goal-driven and adapted in real time based on how the child responds to therapy.
Family Education & Home Carryover
Family involvement is integrated throughout the intensive. Caregivers receive ongoing
education, demonstrations, and strategies during sessions to support carryover at home. Home programming is individualized and adjusted as the intensive progresses, ensuring families feel confident supporting their child beyond the clinic.
Who Intensives Are a Good Fit For
PlayStrong Intensives works with children and young adults across a wide range of diagnoses and developmental needs, including:
-
Cerebral palsy
-
Hypotonia / low tone
-
Motor coordination challenges
-
Retained primitive reflexes
-
Sensory regulation difficulties
-
Neurodivergent children and teens
Intensives are ideal for families seeking focused, short-term therapy aimed at foundational change rather than maintenance-based care.
Enrollment & Program Details
Getting Started
To participate in OT intensives at PlayStrong Intensives, families complete an intake process that allows us to fully understand each child’s needs and goals. Intake paperwork and relevant medical history are reviewed prior to the start of the program to ensure the intensive is appropriately designed and safe for your child.
Evaluation & Ongoing Assessment
Each intensive begins with a comprehensive occupational therapy evaluation. Findings from the evaluation guide goal setting, session structure, and home programming. Progress is continually monitored and therapy is adjusted throughout the intensive based on the child’s response and performance.
Home Program & Carryover
Family education and home carryover are integrated throughout the intensive. At the conclusion of the program, families receive an individualized home program to support continued progress beyond the clinic.
